ScanPass

We love our smart phones, but it’s not much fun to enter good passwords using those keyboards. Especially if you use complex passwords for important services. With ScanPass, you can scan a QR code as your password.

ScanPass is now available for iPhone and iPad and is coming soon in the Android Market.

About Password Security: The bar codes that ScanPass uses are not encrypted. They can be read by any bar code scanner. This means you need to keep them private, just like you would any other password you’ve written on a piece of paper. ScanPass Pro includes the ability to encrypt passwords so that only your personal device can read them.

Generating a QR Code with your Password

  1. Download our free Barcode Creator app for your system.

  2. Type your password into the box.

  3. Print the password and store it somewhere safe, like your wallet. Be sure to keep it where people can’t readily see it!

Using ScanPass on iPhone/iPad

Using ScanPass to enter a password is easy. When you see a password field and want to paste a password, simply:

  1. Tap the home button.

  2. Tap the ScanPass icon to open the scanner.

  3. Frame the bar code you want to scan using the box on the screen. ScanPass will tell you when it’s placed the password on the clipboard.

  4. Double-tap the home button and select the app that’s requesting the password. Put the cursor in the password field, then tap and hold to paste.

Using ScanPass on Android

After a default install, ScanPass for Android works just like ScanPass for iPhone.

  1. Start ScanPass.

  2. Frame the bar code you want to scan using the box on the screen. ScanPass will tell you when it’s placed the password on the clipboard.

  3. Tap and hold the home button to bring up the list of recent apps and return to the app that has requested the password.

  4. Tap the password field to place the cursor there, then tap-and-hold to paste the password.

Using the ScanPass Input Method on Android

ScanPass for Android also offers an Input Method Service to make scanning passwords even more convenient. Because the Android OS places special restrictions on Input Methods, you’ll first need to enable it in settings:

  1. Launch Settings

  2. Choose “Language & keyboard”

  3. Check the box next to “ScanPass QR Code”

Once the Input Method is enabled, entering passwords is even easier. When an app requests a password:

  1. Tap and hold on the password field.

  2. Choose “Input Method”

  3. Choose “ScanPass QR Code”

  4. Frame the QR code in the green box.

That’s it! ScanPass will enter the password for you when it scans the code. No copy and paste required.
